The Buccoo Reef Trust (BRT) in collaboration with the Caribbean Princess tour operator, is offering an amazing educational tour package of the Buccoo/Bon Accord Marine Complex for Students. We also cater to the desires other interest groups such as churches, youth clubs and recreational groups as requested. The Learning Journeys we deliver are very different from the typical reef trips offered by other glass bottom boat operators, in that, we take into consideration the learning outcomes of each group and customize their tour package for maximum satisfaction. We cater to students at all levels of the school system (from primary to tertiary), as the learning journeys are adapted to suite the academic level of the group, i.e. ,we provide information that is relevant to their syllabus as it relates to the topics of Tourism and the Environment, Mangrove Wetlands, Sea Grass Beds and Coral Reefs. These Learning Journeys are designed, coordinated by BRT professionals in the field of Coastal Resources Management with years of experience in teaching and Environmental Education, and conducted by trained individuals.
A basic educational tour includes a presentation on the ecology of the Buccoo Reef Ecological Complex followed by a trek through the mangrove community at Buccoo Bay and then a boat trip to the Bon Accord Lagoon and the Coral Gardens. Students are provided with handouts and references that aid in the learning process.
We emphasize safety and continue to have an excellent track record where this is concerned. The Caribbean Princess is the glass bottom vessel that is used for the reef trips. This clean, spacious vessel is safe. It is licensed to transport 85 persons and is outfitted with life vests for each passenger. Passengers are also covered by public liability insurance. In addition, we make every effort to ensure that groups are accompanied by a certified first responder (rescue diver or life guard). Students on school sponsored trips are not permitted to bathe or go into the water on school sponsored trips.
